The TORNVIKEN series is ideal when you need more workspace, more storage ‒ more kitchen. Combine a kitchen island with shelves to create a rustic kitchen where you can cook together. Everyone can fit!
Layer construction adds stability and makes the countertop less sensitive to humidity, thus, less likely to bend, split or crack than solid wood.

Very HandyTonia S.I love this island. It fits a 10X10 kitchen perfectly. I love the shelving. Although I do wish the shelving was as adjustable and that it had cabinet doors. Other than that, its very solid and fulfills our needs. We hold appliances, plates, cutlery, cereal/oatmeal, and bread all comfortably inside. I would purchase again but Im sure this will last many years. I love how heavy it is. I did have to purchase my own rubber feet to keep it from sliding. $2 fix. The ones that come with it are too smooth.5
Tornviken Kitchen Island, Off White, Oak, Length: 49 5/8
Solid islandCLIFFORD A.This island is very heavy. It’s a complicated assembly, so I suggest two or three people. I’m a 67 year old man with handyman experience, and it took me a few hours. It comes in three boxes. Having a helper, or two will help with maneuvering the assembly and lining up the components. In the end it’s beautiful. My wife loves it! And it’s weight gives it solidity.4
Great findValeria R.I was originally looking for a dinning set in a mid-century modern style but then I saw this piece. It’s beautiful, functional and the perfect size for the space.5
Perfect crafting tableSherry P.We purchased two of these and put them into a row - one facing one direction, and one facing the other - two chairs can easily fit, more can in a pinch. Storage is built it!5

Nice cute pieceBopta L.I purchased this to go along with the other larger Tornviken piece, and it compliments it very well, no matter how you place it. Easy to assemble and sturdy.5
Love this IslandChloe B.Great size and functionality. Sturdy and good looking. The countertop cleans off beautifully and we just love it! So glad I didn't buy the one I wanted for $3500 because this is just perfect!5
AmazingKristina L.I got this to replace a really awful wayfair island, and definitely has a system down for assembly. It took me and my mom less than 2hrs to assemble, and was super easy. It feels like really good quality, solid wood instead of composite wood. There's so much storage and the seating space is quite spacious (can fit 2 counter height stools very well, would not fit 3). It is quite pricy, but for the solid wood and quality, I can see where the price comes from. I'd definitely recommend this and would buy it again.5
Stylish Kitchen Islands From Ikea Items
Preferred older designJordan S.One big difference I did not realize with this newer model is that the sides are enclosed on the sitting area. In the previous model, the side was open with a cross bar, which was great to place your feet on. I feel very “contained” when sitting in the island, and miss the freedom of stretching my legs out or on the bar. Your feet have nowhere to go sadly. No turning back now after spending $500. Assembly is slightly challenging mostly because of the pictures. Step 25 was impossible for me because it relies on exactly lining everything up when it is on its side. I had to turn the table on its completely other side to drop the piece down vertically for it to work. It wasnt even close how much easier that was, just be careful when lifting the unfinished part.3
It looks great!JoanI have bought several items in the past. So when my mom wanted a coffee bar, we went there. It was easier to install than other items I bought from there and it looks great in her kitchen.5
Wood is a precious natural resource. Even though it’s a renewable material it needs to be handled responsibly. One way to do it, is to use the wood more efficiently. That’s what we do with our kitchen worktops in thick wood veneer.

Ikea Dining Table With Rush Seat Dining Chairs
“At we have a tradition of trying to utilize the materials we have in the best possible way, ” says Johnny Rietz, who’s been involved in developing the kitchen worktops in thick veneer. The work started in 2008 when founder, Ingvar Kamprad, visited one of our suppliers and asked a simple question that took some time to answer: ‘How can we make this product using fewer trees?’
“After some trials and errors, we came up with the solution. A core of particleboard and a layer of solid wood on the outside – or thick veneer, ” says Johnny. “It’s a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing methods. Paper-thin veneer has been used in fine, decorative furniture making for centuries, but for our worktops we’re using a much thicker layer of wood.” The thick veneer makes the surface hardwearing, and it saves raw material – a lot of it. From the same amount of wood needed to make one solid worktop, it’s possible to produce five thick veneer worktops.
Another advantage with this production technique is that you can use the whole tree; the stem as surface, and scrap bits – curvy, bent branches and small twigs – for the particleboard on the inside. The end result is a worktop that is every bit as genuine as solid wood, only more stable and more resistant to humidity. “Sometimes a small, harmless question can make a big difference. That’s exactly what happened with our kitchen worktops. It started as a challenge to use resources wiser, and proved to have positive effects not only for the environment, but also the quality. I think it’s great when that happens!” says Johnny.
The Treasured Island: 4 Versions Of The Kitchen Hero
A veneer is a thin wooden sheet attached to things like particleboard to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak, and beech, and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life. This chic black and white kitchen is illuminated by skylights and a Hicks Pendant hung from a vaulted ceiling over a glossy black island contrasted with a white quartz countertop.

Everything felt far away from where you needed it, there seemed to be less work top space even though there was more. Stuck with locations for oven / sink / fridge, there was nothing to be done about the so-called triangle of optimum ergonomics.
All nice and airy but see that table – it
