In this post, we’re sharing why we picked the Ikea Hemnes dresser for my parent’s bedroom, tips to assemble this Ikea dresser, helpful tools, and overall impression and review!

My parents needed a bedroom dresser for their apartment and since they are renting, we wanted to spend as little as possible on a decent dresser that would be functional and also look good!
The Easiest Hemnes Dresser Hack
It will definitely help to have a larger open workspace to build the 8-drawer Hemnes since there are a lot of parts and materials to organize.
Ikea will include all the tools you’ll need to assemble the Hemnes dresser, except for a Phillips head screwdriver and a hammer. We used the hammer to tap in the wooden dowels and nails.
A really handy hack for assembly that will make the build MUCH faster and easier is using a ratcheting screwdriver, which we use for ALL our furniture assembly projects. This is a worthy tool to have on hand for so many home projects!

Another handy tool to make the build process faster is a ratcheting socket wrench with a hex bit, instead of the Allen wrench that comes with the Ikea materials.
When putting the backboard on the dresser, first mark out the center of the dresser then use a piece of cardboard from the packing materials to draw a straight line. The reason for marking out the center of the dresser is so you know exactly where to hammer the nails into the middle beam.
After building one drawer and seeing which hardware is needed, you can set aside and organize the rest of each drawer’s hardware ahead of time to be efficient.

We were pretty surprised to see that the drawer’s sides are real wood, not particle board. This was better quality than we expected!
The dresser frame was assembled in the living room, where there was much more room to work, and then transferred to its final spot in the bedroom BEFORE drawers were placed in (so it’s not too heavy).
They were pleasantly surprised at how much of their clothes could comfortably fit in the large 8-drawer dresser and loved how it fit perfectly in this nook.
Help! My IdanÄs Cabinet Drawer Isnt Aligned. Ive Tried Loosing The Screw And Adjusting The Rail But It Still Looks Off. Is It Suppose To Look Like This?
The overall dresser frame is sturdy, however, the drawers are not as smooth as we’d hoped. Their only complaint is that one of the drawers doesn’t close as well as it used to and sometimes needs to be forced in.
The quality of the Hemnes is decent considering the price of $279 and it definitely makes for a great option for a bedroom dresser at a low price point!
