Ikea Kitchen Cabinet Standard Sizes

The IKEA Base Cabinet (3 Drawers) clean and minimalist design can easily blend into a space while providing the necessary storage space. This base cabinet features 3 drawers of the same depth with built-in dampers so that they close quietly and softly. These drawers are perfect for categorizing different items either in a kitchen or work space.

The IKEA Sektion Base Cabinet (3 Drawers) has a frame height of 30” (76.2 cm), overall installed counter height of 36” (91.4 cm), widths of 15”, 18”, 24”, 30”, 36” (38.1, 45.7, 61, 76.2, 91.4 cm), and depths of 15.5”, 24.75” (39.4, 62.9 cm).

A standard base cabinet has a depth of 24 inches (61 cm). Cabinets located on the upper wall usually have a depth range of 12 to 24 inches (30.5-61 cm). Although these are the standard sizes, cabinets at a depth of up to 36 inches (91.4 cm) are also available.

To install kitchen cabinets, attach a support board to marked studs located on the wall. The doors and hardware of the cabinets do not need to be on at this point (their absence makes installation easier). Secure the cabinets together, make sure they are flush via clamps, and then screw them together at the stile. Lift the cabinets onto the support board. The last step of installation is to drill the cabinet frame into the wall studs and attach the cabinet into the appropriate position with screws.

To remove kitchen cabinets, detach any molding and unscrew the cabinet from the soffit or ledger board. Take away all the cabinets and drawers and break the seal or caulking between the counter backsplash and wall. The countertop should be able to lift up from the cabinet.

This post is intended to be detailed look at the sizes of our Ikea cabinet frames and Semihandmade drawer and doors. A template for what these sizes mean in real life. This is by no means, my attempt to show you how to beautifully organize your kitchen cabinets. Geesh, there are probably still crumbs in half of these pictures. The intent of this post is to show you what size of cabinet may work best for your pots and pans. Or that this hutch in the photos works extremely well at storing your pantry. By sharing my real, functioning kitchen I can hopefully help you in making sure that your plan will provide you with the best set up- for you! One that allows you to easily store, access, cook up a fancy meal, or celebrate with your family in your kitchen. I am capable of styling it up beautifully and taking pictures, but that wouldn’t serve the purpose of this post.

This wall is directly behind the island, and is the primary view of the kitchen from our adjacent family room. We have 9′ ceilings so I used the second row of cabinets to utilize that space for both function and aesthetic purposes. Keeping the same 20″ high cabinets across the entire top line was important to me. I love having the glass cabinets, too. They have lighting in them so at night we turn on just these and our island pendants for a cozy glow in our kitchen. I chose not to do under cabinet lights for these upper cabinets, because we have lighting on our vent hood right between them. This provides just enough task lighting for this area.

This large drawer under the oven is perfect for storing my mixing bowls and larger cast iron cookware. The cabinet above the oven it where I store all of my baking pans.
